With a little help from my friends

Very soon we’ll be starting out on our Everest summit push. All our preparations have been done, and from now on it’s just one foot in front of the other; the rest is in the hands of the mountain gods.

Of course, should we be blessed with a successful summit we won’t just have the mountain gods to thank. As with any big project there’s a large supporting cast all of whom play their part.

Here are some of the most important. While we’ve been resting at Base Camp indulging in red wine and cheese every afternoon, our superstar Sherpa team have been working like Trojans carrying oxygen, tents and stoves as high as 8300m. A handful of elite climbers are able to climb Everest without Sherpa support, but the majority of us wouldn’t be able to get anywhere near the summit without them, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

BTW, the chap on the left is Phil Crampton, our expedition leader. He’s the mastermind behind it all and the only one of us as strong as a Sherpa (which is high praise indeed).
