Above Choksti, Stok Kangri, India
A large-eared pika pops its head out of its burrow.
The pika, or mouse hare, is a small mammal which inhabits remote and inaccessible terrain, living in burrows or underneath rocks. This particular species is 17-20cm long and is found on slopes beneath rock scree. It is active during the daytime and can sometimes be seen sunbathing on rocks. This one was seen early in the morning, and was not too alarmed about being photographed, its bolthole being just a short distance away.
