Humayun's Tomb, Delhi.
The tomb is an early example of Mughal architecture and a prototype for the Taj Majal with its large dome surrounded by formal gardens. Humayun was the second Mughal emperor and reigned from 1530 but lost his throne to the Afghan leader Sher Shah Sur in 1540. Forced into exile for 15 years, he established himself at Kabul and re-took Delhi in 1555, but died the following year. The tomb was built as a memorial to him by his senior wife Haji Begum.
