The téléphérique (cable car) climbs in two stages. From Chamonix, at 1030m, it climbs up the wooded hillside to the station above the Plan de l'Aiguille, at 2310m. From there it makes its climb above the rocky mountainside to the Aiguille du Midi station at 3770m, where a final ascent in a lift takes you to the viewpoint at the top of the Aiguille du Midi at 3842m.
