Britain - Knoydart - November 2007. A few days backpacking in wet and windy weather on a remote peninsula in northwest Scotland, including an ascent of Luinne Bheinn and a visit to Inverie, a village isolated from the mainland road network.

Britain - Welsh Crags and Cnicht - October 2007. A weekend course on rock climbing in North Wales, followed by a brisk walk up the hill known as the 'Welsh Matterhorn'.

India - Northern Ladakh - August/September 2007. A remote trek in the far north of India, including a first ascent of the previously unclimbed Yangchan Kangri (5710m), and an attempt on Sahib Chasa (6078m), cut short by heavy snowfall and poor visibility at 5500m.

China - Muztag Ata - August 2007. A mountaineering expedition and successful ascent of Muztag Ata (7546m), the huge dome of snow and ice in the Chinese Pamirs in the far west of China, a mountain first attempted by Sven Hedin in 1894 and made famous by explorers Eric Shipton and HW Tilman.

Pakistan - The Karakoram Highway - July 2007. Following a branch of the ancient Silk Road trading route from Islamabad to the border with China at Khunjerab Pass.

Britain - Glen Nevis - July 2007. A camping trip in the popular tourist valley in the western Highlands, bagging Munros in variable weather conditions, including Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles.

Britain - Lochnagar and Glen Shee - July 2007. A few days of hill walking in reasonably fine weather conditions (for Scotland) on the grassy plateau of the White Mounth in eastern Scotland, including 14 Munros and a Corbett.

Nepal - Tamang Heritage Trail, Gosainkund & Helambu - June 2007. A trek among traditional villages in an unspoiled region near the Tibetan border, then ascending to Shiva's sacred lakes at Gosainkund and crossing the Laurebinayak La (4610m) to the Helambu region as the monsoon arrives.

Nepal - Lumbini - May 2007. Temples, pagodas and stupas at the birthplace of the Buddha, a famous pilgrimage site for Buddhists across the world.

Nepal - Bardia National Park - May 2007. A week of tiger stalking in a little-visited haven for wildlife in western Nepal, including some rhino spotting on elephant back, and an interesting rafting trip down the Karnali River.

Tibet - Everest North Col - April/May 2007. A mountaineering expedition to the North Col of Everest (7060m), along the route up the East Rongbuk glacier pioneered by George Mallory in 1924. Includes an ascent of the north summit of Lhakpa Ri (7005m), a nearby peak.

Tibet - The Friendship Highway - April/May 2007. Destinations along the famous overland route from Tibet's capital Lhasa, to Nepal's capital Kathmandu, including Shigatse, Shegar, and distant views of Himalayan peaks.

Ireland - Northern Ireland - April 2007. A long, sunny easter bank holiday weekend exploring the eastern parts of Northern Ireland, including Belfast, the Mountains of Mourne, the spectacular north coast, and the Glens of Antrim.

Uganda - Rwenzori Mountains - December 2006. A wet, humid, bog-hopping and mud-wading circuit of the fabled 'mountains of the moon', including ascents of Mt Stanley (5109m), Mt Speke (4890m) and Mt Baker (4843m), the 3rd, 4th and 5th highest mountains in Africa.

Britain - Day Walks 2006 - June - October. Walks in Sussex, Oxfordshire, the Lake District, and along the Cornish coast.

Nepal - Annapurna Circuit - September/October 2006. The classic 120 mile circuit of the Annapurna range in northwest Nepal. The trail passes through a number of different climate zones in the course of ascending from 800m above sea level to the 5416m Thorong La pass and back down again.

Britain - The Yorkshire 3 Peaks - August 2006. The famous 25 mile circuit of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales, completed in nine and a half hours.

Britain - Northern Cairngorms - June 2006. 85 miles and 11 Munros in 5 days of walking, including two days skirting the two ridges of the Lairig Ghru, taking in five of the six highest summits in the UK and camping at the Corrour Bothy, a day of wildlife spotting, and a lengthy trek up to Ben Avon.

Britain - Northeast Lake District - May 2006. An ascent of Atkinson Pike and Blencathra via Sharp Edge, and a traverse of Fairfield and St Sunday Crag from Ambleside to Glenridding, returning over the Scandale Pass.

Argentina - Aconcagua - December 2005/January 2006. An attempt on the highest mountain in South America, 6959m Aconcagua, via the Horcones Valley and Normal Route to the summit. The attempt was disappointingly cut short at a point called El Dedo (6460m) due to high winds and cold weather.

Britain - Day Walks 2005 - January - December. Walks on Bodmin Moor, the Cornish coast, the South Downs, and birdwatching in central London.

Britain - Thirlmere - October 2005. A reunion weekend for the Mera Peak 100% Club in the Lake District. We stayed at a camping barn near Thirlmere, climbed nearby High Raise and had a reunion celebration in the King's Head.

India - Stok Kangri - August 2005. A trek through the arid mountains of Ladakh in the far north of India, culminating in an ascent of 6114m Stok Kangri, overlooking the town of Leh and with views of the distant Karakorum.

India - Leh and the Indus Valley - August 2005. Visits to the Buddhist monasteries and other attractions of the Indus Valley in Ladakh, a region known as 'Little Tibet' due to its proximity and cultural links.

India - Delhi - August 2005. A sightseeing tour of some of the main monuments, buildings and gardens of India's capital.

France - La Vallée Blanche - July 2005. A second unsuccessful attempt on Mont Blanc, via the Tacul route, again hampered by the weather. Stormy weather delayed our start, then avalanche conditions on Mont Blanc du Tacul forced us to turn back during our last chance for a summit dash.

Britain - Isle of Skye - May 2005. A week of rain, snow, mist, cloud, even a bit of sun, and more wet kit than you can ever hope to imagine. We slogged our way up four Munroes in pouring rain and explored various parts of the rest of the island.

Ethiopia - Simien Mountains - December 2004/January 2005. A trek through the dramatic Simien Mountains of northern Ethiopia, with their fertile landscape of plateaus and escarpments, and unique wildlife. Included an ascent of 4533m Ras Dashen, the highest mountain in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia - Gondar and Addis Ababa - December 2004/January 2005. Some of the sights of Ethiopia's former and current capitals, including Christian churches, 17th century castles, hilltop views and (of course) bar interiors!

Nepal - Mera Peak - October/November 2004. An ascent of the highest trekking peak in Nepal, 6476m Mera Peak. After a two week trek through the remote countryside above the Hinku Khola river, our entire group reached the summit on 31 October before returning to Lukla over the slippery Zatr La.

Britain - West of England - August 2004. A couple of days of relaxation at the Big Chill festival at Eastnor Park, Herefordshire, followed by an afternoon walk up Herefordshire Beacon for a view of the festival site, and a return stop-off at the Cotswold Wildlife Park.

Germany - Berlin - June 2004. Gareth's stag weekend - an unusual one in the sense that it also featured some sightseeing!

Britain - Exmoor - May 2004. The final two days of the Two Moors Way again, but in rather better weather conditions to the last time I walked it! Along the woodland riverside of the Barle, and across bleak moorland above Simonsbath, finishing with a high path overlooking sea cliffs on the way into Lynmouth.

Britain - North Wales - September 2003. Ascents of the central three thousanders - Y Garn, Elidir Fawr, Tryfan, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach, the sights of Caernarfon and its castle, and a walk in the Lledr Valley beside Dolwyddelan Castle and Moel Siabod.

Italy - Gran Paradiso - August 2003. As an alternative to Mont Blanc, which was deemed too dangerous this year, an ascent of the highest mountain wholly in Italy, 4061m Gran Paradiso, ascending via the Chabod hut and descending via Vittorio Emanuele hut.

France - Chamonix Valley - August 2003. Training in ice axe, crampons and ice climbing technique on the Mer de Glace, a ride on the téléphérique up to Aiguille du Midi, and acclimatisation walks on the Glacier du Tour and Plateau du Trient, but the attempt on Mont Blanc was abandoned due to extreme rockfall.

Morocco - Jebel Toubkal - July 2003. Four days of trekking in the High Atlas mountains, from the winter ski resort of Oukaïmeden to the fertile Berber village of Imlil, including an ascent of 4167m Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa.

Britain - Malvern Hills - May 2003. A few short walks along the dramatic ridge of the Malvern Hills, including Worcestershire Beacon and Herefordshire Beacon, as well as a walk up Bredon Hill on the edge of the Cotswolds, and walking from the Talbot in Knightwick.

Argentina - Tierra del Fuego - February 2003. A boat trip past marine wildlife on the Beagle Channel to the Harberton Estancia, the Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego including a spot of beaver watching, and walking to the Glaciar Martial above Ushuaia.

Argentina - Parque Nacional Los Glaciares - February 2003. The Perito Moreno Glacier and trekking in the Fitz Roy area, including Monte Fitz Roy Lookout, the Cerro Torre Glacier and views of the Southern Patagonia Ice Cap from Paso del Viento.

Chile - Parque Nacional Torres del Paine - February 2003. A few days trekking among the dramatic rock spires of southern Patagonia, some days of which were decidedly wet, including walks to the Torres Lookout, Lago Grey and the Cerro Ferrier Lookout.

Britain - Snowdonia and North Shropshire - January 2003. A very windy climb up Cadair Idris in winter, and more gentle strolls around the Shropshire uplands of Wenlock Edge and The Long Mynd in bitter winds.

Tanzania - Ngorongoro Crater - October 2002. Safari in the spectacular 20km diameter collapsed volcano (caldera) which contains many different wildlife habitats.

Tanzania - Tarangire National Park - October 2002. On safari in a rugged ecosystem of dry grassland, swamp and unusual woodland of baobab and sausage trees.

Tanzania - Kilimanjaro - October 2002. An ascent of the highest point in Africa, 5895m Uhuru Peak, by crossing the Shira Plateau, climbing the Shira Cathedral and Barranco Wall, and reaching the crater rim at Stella Point. The descent was along the alternative Mweka Route.

Kenya - Mount Kenya - October 2002. An ascent of Point Lenana (4985m), Mount Kenya's third summit, via the Sirimon Route through a landscape of giant lobelia and groundsel, returning along the Naro Moru Route through the infamous vertical bog.

Britain - East Cornwall - August 2002. A drive around Bodmin Moor's antiquities, a spot of walking, a trip to the south coast, and a few local attractions, all done with the excuse of conducting picture research for the Lower Netherton web site.

Peru - Huayhuash Circuit - July 2002. A classic remote and beautiful circuit of the Cordillera Huayhuash, crossing 7 passes over 4500m, including 5030m Punta Cuyoc, and a detour into the Sarapococha Valley to see the site of Touching the Void and Joe Simpson's amazing escape off Siula Grande.

Ireland - South West Corner - May 2002. A rainy tour of the five peninsulas: Dingle, Iveragh, Beara, Sheep's Head and Mizen Head. The appalling weather conditions meant an emphasis on Guinness drinking rather than walking, including a rugby match on our rest day in Kenmare.

Italy - Milan - May 2002. Seventeen guys and an inflatable dalmatian. This is not a photo archive of Milan's more recognised tourist attractions - bar interiors predominate - but Pel did make it to his wedding the following weekend.

Egypt - Sinai and Red Sea Coast - May 2002. A dawn ascent of Mt Sinai and visit to St Katherine's Monastery, a desert trek near Dahab, snorkelling off the Ras Mohammed coast, and a trip to the Red Sea building site that is Hurghada.

Egypt - Cairo and Luxor - May 2002. A tour of Egypt's ancient antiquities, including the Great Pyramids at Giza, the Temples of Karnak, and a trip to the amazing Valley of the Kings, with its profusion of pharoahs tombs as well as the Temple of Hatshepsut.

Venezuela - Margarita - April 2002. A windy holiday on the south coast of a Caribbean island, which involved much time spent underwater and in the bar. Some people managed to windsurf but I was better at the latter, as these photographs will show. Included a trek into the island's jungle interior.

Britain - Brecon Beacons - April 2002. A climb up Sugar Loaf, a classic horseshoe ascent of Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecons, and a leisurely shower behind the Sgwd yr Eira waterfall. And, of course, a few lengthy sessions at the Star, Talybont-on-Usk, where photography wasn't on the agenda.

Morocco - Anti-Atlas Mountains - March 2002. A trek around the barren desert landscape of Morocco's most southerly mountain range. The circuit, in an area close to the town of Igherm, features Berber villages, desert oases, and an ascent of Jebel Aklim.

Nepal - Kathmandu Valley - February/March 2002. Visits to the many Hindu and Buddhist temples of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur.
