Bruach na Frithe, Isle of Skye, Britain
Tony and me on the summit of Bruach na Frithe (958m), our fourth and highest Munroe of the week.
This was the coldest day of the week, and the only occasion when a few spots of snow fell on us, but it had been the most straightforward ascent. Although exposed in places, by keeping to the ridge it had been possible to reach the top with virtually no scrambling. As we ate our sandwiches on the summit, we were joined by a couple of people from a venture scouts old boys group, some of whom had been staying with us in the bunkhouse in Sligachan. As the clouds thickened around us and we discussed what the weather would be like for the descent, the quieter of the two came out with the truest words we had heard all week: There's never any good news around here is there - it's either raining or about to rain! The clouds and the wind overtook us again on the descent, for the fourth time in as many Munroes, but at least we had experienced relatively clear views on the way up, and the descent was easy this time around, including some very enjoyable scree-running.
