A snow bunting on the summit cairn of Ben Macdui.
Mainly confined to the arctic-alpine habitats of the Scottish Highlands, snow buntings also gather on shingle beaches and salt marshes in the winter. It appears to be an inquisitive bird, and both this bird and its female companion hopped very close to us as it waited for us to finish our lunch so that it could scavenge the scraps.
