A view across the Thames towards the rotunda on Temple Island, near Henley-on-Thames.
Temple Island marks the start of the Henley Regatta course at the northern (downstream) end of Henley Reach. The course extends 1 mile 450 yards in a perfect straight line to Henley. The Regatta itself was established in 1839 after townspeople recognised the advantages of staging the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race at Henley in 1829.
