Granny, the octogenarian, in the garden at The Grove.
My maternal grandmother, Jay Evans, was in only her mid to late fifties when a stroke paralysed her left-side and left her wheelchair bound for the rest of her life. I was only a small child then, and I don't remember her any other way. Earlier in her life she had been a founder member of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge. She died after a fall on Boxing Day, 2001, aged 85.
